Editor-in-Chief Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a currently enrolled MTSU student in good academic standing.
- Have at least one year remaining at MTSU after appointment.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Demonstrate strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Have prior experience with academic publishing, student publications, research presentation, or a related field.
- Be able to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate a complex publication schedule.
- Possess strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- Attend regular editorial meetings and oversee the journal production process throughout the academic year.
- Work collaboratively with faculty advisors, reviewers, authors, designers, and university staff.
- Commit to promoting undergraduate research and scholarship across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience serving on the Scientia et Humanitas editorial board.
- Experience with peer review, academic writing, or undergraduate research.
- Familiarity with style guides and editorial standards.
- Experience managing teams, projects, or student organizations.
- Experience with digital publishing platforms, website content management, or social media promotion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the editorial board and oversee all aspects of journal production.
- Manage manuscript solicitation, review, and selection processes.
- Coordinate communication with student authors and faculty reviewers.
- Establish and monitor production deadlines.
- Review and edit content for quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Collaborate with the design team on layout and publication.
- Assist with promotion of the journal and recruitment of future staff members.
- Represent Scientia et Humanitas at Honors College events and research showcases.
